Troy Bennell

Bunbury-based artist Troy Bennell first started painting in 2000 and his paintings often feature dead trees. This is because he says the landscape would not be so bare and the trees would not be dead if people had left the land the way it should be.

The paintings show the different colours of the land, as well as the calmness in the land, according to Troy.

Despite being fairly new on WA's Indigenous Arts scene, Troy has quickly received recognition for his talent, winning the 2001 South West Survey Non Acquisition Worsley Alumina Award and being included in four exhibitions and a number of local art collections.

Born in 1971, Troy is currently employed promoting Aboriginal art and culture in the South West in his role as arts officer at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.
