Sharlene Harte was born in Kalgoorlie, and now resides and works in Donnybrook. As a young girl she grew up in Cardwell Queensland where she was given the Aboriginal name 'Boomadee' which means coral. The name was given to her by an Aboriginal elder, Mum Jerry, who lives in Murray, Upper Queensland. Mum Jerry also gave Sharlene permission to paint Aboriginal art. Sharlene started painting with acrylic at the age of 15. She paints mostly animals, land and water. Her work has been exhibited at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and the Wardan Centre at Injidup. The biggest influence on her artwork is her family. Her painting 'New Beginning' depicts the mother goanna which has walked through the mountains away from the nesting grounds. She is leaving a trail of shedding skin so her young ones can follow her out of the mountains. She laid her eggs in the mountains for the continuation of life. 'Animal Grounds' reflects a place where animals come together to lay their eggs and start their new life. The ground is a sacred, safe place for their young ones to have a longer life. |
