Zena Harte was born in Tully, Queensland, but now lives in Noongar country at Donnybrook. She says her goal is to be acknowledged as an Aboriginal female artist and to capture Aboriginal life and stories on canvas. Zena's Aboriginal name is Moogal, meaning black bream, and was given to her by an Aboriginal elder, Mum Jerry, who lives in the Upper Murray, Queensland. Zena has been painting with acrylics for several years and enjoys painting. She works at the Djinang Kwop Designs shop at Donnybrook which sells arts and craft, leatherwork, jewellery and paintings. 'Hands Across My Land' reflects Zena's belief that our land and our country has been bought together by the hands of our people. Her painting, 'Family Gathering' depicts the circle of life with her mother holding hands with her children assuring them her culture is safe within her campgrounds. |
